Anica Perez, M.S., LPC-Intern

Anica is a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern with the state of Texas, is a National Certified Counselor, and a Certified School Counselor. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University, a CACREP accredited program, where she was awarded honors from Chi Sigma Iota, the International Counseling Honor Society. Anica received her School Counseling certification from the University of Texas at Tyler and also completed a play therapy certification from Capella University. Before becoming a Certified School Counselor, Anica worked as a Special Education teacher and has extensive knowledge of the admission, review, dismissal, and Section 504 processes.  She is committed to professional growth and is currently a member in good standing with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).

Anica has experience working with individuals of all ages struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, and grief. While earning her degree, Anica worked in various settings including Family Time Crisis and Counseling Center, a non-profit organization, as well as inpatient psychiatric care facilities where she gained experience in psychological assessment and evaluation.  Her school counseling experience allowed her to work with families in a school setting while utilizing strategies from Christian Moore’s Why Try Program. In addition to her family and individual work, Anica has also facilitated support groups for women survivors of domestic abuse as well as facilitating parenting classes for parents of children in Child Protective Services custody.

Anica believes that the client is the author and expert of their own lives and is in control of their own choices and behaviors. She attests that her role as the counselor is to encourage, support, and guide her clients toward better self-discovery. This is accomplished by aiding clients in recognizing options and obstacles, building healthy relationships and boundaries, and identifying problem solving skills all in a non-judgmental, empathetic, and honest environment. Anica strives to instill hope in her clients by empowering them to discover and build on their own strengths, and further believes that things can and will get better provided the client makes a commitment to the counseling process.
