Melissa Abbott Mathew, M.A., LPC


Melissa Mathew is licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Melissa received her Bachelor’s Degree from East Texas Baptist University and her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, with a Marriage and Family Specialization, from the University of Texas at Tyler.

Melissa has primarily worked directly with children and adolescents, but also has experience with family systems. Melissa is trained in Trauma Focused CBT, cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as other therapy types. She has experience with depression, trauma, anxiety, abuse, stress-management, relational issues, self-esteem, school issues, self-harm, emotional and behavioral issues, social skills, autism spectrum, parenting, couples, families and other situations which may bring a person to counseling. She has worked closely with schools to improve students’ performance and behavior. She has experience in the community setting as well as residential treatment. Melissa also is willing and able to integrate faith if the client requests this to be a part of the counseling process.

Melissa considers it a privilege to be able to walk with clients on their journey of healing and understands that the counseling relationship is a powerful method for change. Melissa believes that a client’s strengths are primary in approaching problems, and seeks to empower the client as expert in their own lives.
